I toddled off to the Cool City for the weekend to celebrate Birthday Season. And to walk a 1/2 marathon with my Mum. She has been recovering from heart bypass surgery and this was the big goal: 21km of asphalt, grass, and gravel.
Somehow it does seem like a worth aim anymore. Still we completed it, and the children, my sister Sharon and I, were the only ones worse for the wear. Sharon was having back pains due to crouching for 12 hours while being abused by a screaming woman (she's a midwife) and, after about 15km, it decided it didn't feel it walking anymore. Despite the excruciating pain she told Mum she would have carry on because otherwise I would never let her live it down. Just as she finish that little comment, I turned round to ask if they were doing alright. Obviously I do have some sensitivity. However I continued walking, and neither of them mentioned the traffic cone sneaking up behind me.
Apparently my fall and grazes were just the inspiration they needed as we all finished the course. I even jogged some of the last bit.
That jogging means I will never do such an event ever again. It would lead to running and, as we all know, running is EVIL and NASTY. If I have to do a marathon again, I will do it on a bike.
There was also the Buena Vista show and mucho dancing after that. Unfortunately it was the night before the marathon so I had to stop dancing with the pretty women at about 1:30am. I miss Edinburgh, where I learnt latin dancing, and Dunedin, where I can get latin dancing, soooo much.
Also Birthday Season is between the 28th of August and the 30th of September and is went the women in the family have their birthday. For a long time I thought all women were virgos. The fact that they aren't, just proves how wrong astrology is :P

Don't Know
Thought I'd say 'hey'. It can mean so many things. In this case its one of those reaching out from across the world connection wanting things, acknowledging life and all that, wondering what you're up to but not saying so much in case you're not minded to say, a bit of a cowardly touch from one not knowing what to expect in return from the other but without risking much embarrassment. Imagine the hand raised in a passing gesture of innocence and a slightly apolgetic smile as if I've intruded upon your world. Having passed in body, going opposite ways, still wondering in mind for moments that day and the next what you're thinking...November 18 2005, 09:46:15 UTC 6 years ago
Re: Don't Know
I'm tempted to say "seek help..."No actually, seek help, an english class or poetry reading. You might be able to develop your talent, and become something better (and less well paid) than an actuary.
Lovely little missive, I was really moved to say "awwww, sweet"
Have a good one

Re: Don't Know
Thanks for the advice. I'll take it under consideration (politician speak: consider it lost in the underworlds - and given how much I enjoy hunting demons - that is the real physical ones (blame Jeremy), I wouldn't hold your breath hoping that my language reaches heavenly grace).Mrs A has been hogging the computer with doing another qualification - obviously I don't do enough to make her feel adequate (or is it my inadequacies that I feel this way - I hadn't even thought I was inadequate (in this area) until now. Its amazing what tapping white keys can do to the mind).

Re: Don't Know
Ye gods and littles fishyies, there's a lot of material for shrink in there. Definitely seek help :)Mrs A has been hogging computer-time to make herself worthy of you, obviously. You being the high paid, incredibly studdly, soccer god and all-round nice guy. Really you need to help her, she's got a lot of work to do.
Unfortunately it's truer that I can handle...
If you meet any demons thinking of leaving Blighty to get away from you, send them here, NP could use the excitement.
Actually speaking of sports gods: I've managed 4 trys in 4 weeks at Touch. Really good since I played only hockey at school :)

Re: Don't Know
Yeah, I really should keep a lot of thoughts in my head. I blame it on the speed typing course (OK only 55 W/M) that has released my inhibitions via the keyboard - I do try really hard to avoid those bad bad websites.Well done on the 4 touch trys. Its a good game I've only played rarely. For a kiwi, I'm actually quite ashamed of my passing action. They expect a lot from you in this department overhear. And my Haka is really non-existent - yeah I know it would be a good girl-puller but I'm married - lest we forget.
2 days ago I had my first 5-aside Friday lunch footy loss in, can't remember the last time. Still I'm looking forward to next week's game to seek revenge. I may not think this at the time after our departmental Xmas party on Thursday.
Some git has come up with the idea of voted awards for the best/worst dressed, desk cleaner, manager likely to win in a wrestling match, and male/female looker. Who dare said that the Office/Dilbert was fictional?! I've (really high-mindedly) abstained though was tempted to name one guy for the lot. Perhaps I should just loosen the tie a little...

Re: Don't Know
Don't worry, my passing action is bad too, just get some spin the ball so it flies like a bullet. The rest is just throwing it hard, generally harder than I can catch it. Also most people over there ASSUME you know more about rugby than them, so just blag it!The haka is easier to do: just recite place names (not Wellington tho!) really forcefully, with actions and claim it was your school/family/work/kindy haka :)
Manager most likely to win a wrestling match? Who would want to work with them? What if it was a woman?
BTW Scott Adams never claimed Dilbert was fictional.
Have a good one.

Re: Don't Know
True. Dilbert must be real otherwise it wouldn't be so funny. I've acquired what seems like the whole series from a departing friend who didn't want to carry them all back to Aussie.Oh, and believe it or not, one woman manager (from 2 women, 4 men) is the favourite for the wrestling award. She'd be the one who told me to P Off after giving seemingly successful tenpin bowling advice to one of her competing team members.
I must admit, somewhat ashamably, I repeated the quote to another colleague on a competing team (goes to show how easy influenced I am), at our Xmas Quiz night last week after he'd repeatedly rankled my competitive streak with stupid actions, like deliberately changing both our and their teams scores to his/their advantage (we each marked the other's answer round before handing them in). Lets just say, he's a good challenge for my anger management techniques.
It reminds me of the time when Walter and I, in a science class, were jostling after he'd pulled my tie, or some such nonsense, and then the teacher walked in. Prudence took its time to control my/our actions. Its kinda weird knowing that further grappling means trouble yet it might just be worth it anyway... no it won't be.
Anyway, I'll let you know the Oscar winners - and why they were so the wrong ones.
